What's that stitch - oblique rib

Welcome to what's that stitch series! Oblique rib creates a diagonal rib with a ripple through it, making it more interesting than plain rib.  Learn what this stitch is, how to do pique rib and get few project ideas for using this stitch.

What is oblique rib?

For oblique rib the stitches create a diagonal rib without knitting on a diagonal.  While it looks hard it's an easy rib stitch to do and uses our favourite sitches, knit and purl.  This stitch also gives an interesting textured rib that isn't as stretchy as most rib.

How do you do oblique rib?

To do oblique rib you only need to know how to:

• Purl

K - knit
P - purl

To do oblique rib 

Cast on multiples of four
Row 1: *K2, P2*
Row 2: *K1, P2, K1*
Row 3: *P2, K2*
Row 4: *P1, K2, P1
Repeat these four rows

What can you make using oblique rib?

Using oblique rib you could knit a facecloth, blanket, scarves, snoods, cowls, beanies or a cushion cover.
