Welcome: About

Welcome!!!

Kia Ora (Hi), Welcome to Cozy Woodland Cottage Knits home to my knitting, writing calligraphy and advocacy for endometriosis.

I'm Angela aka Arjaye, Forest Fern and Autumn Queen from the Autumn Court, and late identified neurodiverse. I live rural on a farm in Auckland New Zealand. I help people learn to knit by creating easy to follow step by step tutorials along with easy to understand patterns that are accessible for low vision, the print challenged and screen readers. I'm an author who writes whimsical fairytales for you sit down and enjoy along with writing two books one fictional fairy tale and one about endometriosis and my journey with it. You can read more about how I started knitting, knitting patterns, my writing and upcoming anthology book launch, what endo is and some of  my journey with it below.

Knitting

I learned how to knit at age 8 by my Great Grandmother. I think I chose knitting as part of a badge for Brownies.  I remember watching her knit and seeing all the lovely things she made and I wanted to learn too.  I knitted a scarf, it was very colourful - wish I had a photo of it but I'm not sure what happened to it.  I didn't knit much after that, over the years I picked it up again on and off knitting was frustrating confusing and overwhelming.  In 2009 I picked it up again, stuck at it, asked for help when I needed it even if it meant emailing or ringing my Nana - I got there in the end. The frustration disappeared and I realized how relaxing knitting can be it soon became my passion.  I started designing in 2018 and since 2022 I’m creating designs with God by my side adding his word into the stories of these.

Knitting became therapeutic as time went on and later on my passion and part of my recovery from eating disorders, depression and anxiety. A few years ago it became therapeutic for my debilitating endometriosis and PTSD. I receive life coaching from Rebekah at Scripture Prescriptions Ministries. While recovering from the above, knitting has been a way for me to be creative and feel like I’m achieving something even on a bad day when I’m in so much pain that the only thing I can do aside from praying is to lay down under a pile of hot water bottles and knit in between resting.

“There is something wonderful about creating with a ball of yarn, needles, God

alongside me, and finding tranquility along the way.”

I create easy to understand patterns that are accessible for low vision, the print challenged and screen readers. These have also been checked for accessibility. These are inspired by nature and God's Word through the stories and scriptures in the bible. God has helped me to heal over the past year with Rebekah's help then brought me into a life calling to help others with His and Rebekah's guidance through the story of each design.

"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:7 NIV

I help you learn how to knit with tutorials, tips, free printables to help you along the way along with accessible beginner knitting patterns. I love sharing my knitting knowledge and passion by helping beginners learn how to knit and knitters learn more about knitting techniques, stitches etc that seem too hard or complicated so that you can relax, knit, learn and create.  I'm passionate about therapeutic knitting and using knitting for mindfulness and as a way to cope with life's challenges and ups and downs through it all.

Cozy Woodland Cottage Knits is a place where you can relax, knit, learn and create!!!

Writing

I’m also an author and calligrapher currently writing my first two books; a fictional fairy tale about a woman finding her way in the world and a non-fiction book on my journey with endometriosis. I also just wrote a fictional whimsical fairy tale called "Life between two worlds" that is going to be published in Fables Of Hope And Light an anthology with other amazing authors. It will be released on 11th January 2023! I cant wait, for now we have just released the cover so I can share it with you.

My fairy tale book is based upon Forest Whispers' life as she navigates her way through trauma, health issues and also tries to find herself in the process. It starts out with a story written by my family member based upon their own garden, the rest of the story starts from a bit of a back story about her life and the darkness. With snippets of Forest Whispers early life in the introduction before as she turns into an adult finding herself and her way in the world.

My Endometriosis book Mysterious Trek Through The Unknown is my journey with endometriosis, miscarriages and grief (please note not every warrior has difficulty conceiving or miscarries their babies or endometriosis or adenomyosis take the decision to have a baby taken away from them), trauma and PTSD. It discusses the ugly sides of endometriosis, the true and raw story from entries from my journal during this time. I also hope to add in other endometriosis warriors' stories too, because we are all unique, it affects us all differently and not everyone has all of the same symptoms etc. What we all do have in common is a mission to stop the spread of misinformation, a community of people who understand, want better care for us all and to get our voices heard!!!

Endo

I’m currently writing a non-fiction book on my journey with endometriosis to raise awareness so no one else feels like they are alone in their journey (see the above if you skimmed past for more info). I have multiple chronic illnesses and PTSD from medical trauma and gaslighting (from medical staff and past trauma).  I understand some of your struggles if you too have chronic illness, chronic pain, fatigue, mental health problems eg. depression, anxiety, PTSD and all that goes along with chronic illness.   I’m also an advocate for endometriosis/chronic illnesses supporting others on their journey while raising awareness too because there’s so much misinformation on endometriosis (please don’t go google this, it gives you the wrong definition which is outdated and has been proven wrong by research and leading endometriosis excision specialists). Endometriosis is where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows wherever it wants to, it has been found everywhere in the body and there is no cure. Endometriosis care around the world sadly is very unacceptable and a battle to get care or inadequate care is given and causes more harm/damage - it shouldn’t happen at all!!! It is why I’m so passionate about it!!!

Time for the fun about me!!!

I'm a photographer, crafter and a book lover who studied as a librarian I love putting books in their order except for mine (they are in a pretty rainbow well as much as I could lol). I can be found knitting almost anywhere when I'm not in the woodland forest. We are cozy minimalists and backyard homesteaders. I love tea, cupcakes and baking weekly not that it lasts long lol. I'm a wife to a Journeyman (an apprentice and teacher)  Die Caster who customise model cars and a mummy to two Master Crafters, 14 Angel babies who went to be with the Lord and a mischievous cat called mischief who reminds me of a toddler. I live in the rural countryside surrounded by cows, chickens, sheep, birds, a resident moreporks (New Zealand owl)  named Capi and Caprie at the bottom of the world in New Zealand.

If you'd like to contact me you can contact me here

You can find me here either in my studio or amongst the forest and secret garden either knitting or writing.
