Cute cuddly knitted under the sea soft toys made from a knitting kit I had from a few years ago and thought i'd knit one for my children. The knitted soft toy whale and an octopus were fun to make in a weekend and they are perfect for an afternoon of play or snuggling in bed.
Under the sea
The under the sea knitting pattern is by Louise Walker at Sincerely Louise you can find her designs Sincerely Louise on Love Knitting. This pattern is currently out of print and has three creatures you can knit - an octopus, whale and starfish. While these are knitted on straight needles I knitted them on double pointed needles, I always find them easier when i'm knitting soft toys.
Knitted whale
The knitted whale knitted up so quickly and was perfect for an afternoon of knitting. It was quite easy to put together as I only had to attach the safety eyes and stitch up the front, back and the two fins to stitch together - adding stuffing as I went. Lastly using two stands of black yarn I added the mouth, which looks quite good on an angle. Here are a few photos of the finished knitted soft toy whale named Wallie:
Knitted octopus
The knitted octopus was a bit more fiddly to knit than the whale with the tentacles and took longer to finish. I miss counted and thought I only had seven tentacles so knitting another one, so now he has nine tentacles instead of eight - least he is unique I guess and more importantly loved. Here is a few photo of the finished knitted soft toy octopus named Inkie after I had finished knitting him.
