Free knitting pattern Fields of hope headband

Picture of free knitting pattern fields of hope

I know most of you hate it when the cool spring breeze blows and your hair ends up all over your face, I feel the same way too.  Walking in the garden admiring the spring flowers I sat down to create fields of hope headband, knitted on circular needles so you don't have to worry about stitching up, just cast off and thread in the ends, add buttons if you wish and its ready to wear.

Fields of hope headband

Fields of hope headband was designed during the spring time, I wanted to create a headband that would keep hair off your face when it blows in the cool spring breeze. I noticed how much the season had changed from winter to spring. The earth waking up from the frost and depths of winter with bees buzzing around, butterflies fluttering and birds singing.  I started admiring the spring flowers, the lavender had began growing quickly and the grassy field had started changing too. The start of a new season bringing hope and the reminder that warmer weather is here and summer wont be far away.  I sat down in the field next to the beautiful flowers blooming to create the fields of hope headband .  These all inspired the name fields of hope, hope you have as much fun knitting it as I did designing it.

You will need to know how to do:

  • Cast on
  • Rib
  • Purl
  • Knit
  • Seed stitch (stitch pattern below for you)
  • Cast off

You will need:

  • 1 50gram ball of arylic yarn or lilly sugar n cream cotton (other cotton i've found makes the headband too loose overtime due to the stretch and give it needs to have).
  • 5mm needles (I used circular needles)
  • Yarn needle
  • 3 buttons if you would like to add these (stitched on after finishing)

Seed stitch pattern:
Row 1: K1, P1
Row 2: P1, K1

Tip: If you tend to cast off too tight go up a needle size.

Cast on 70 sts
K1, P1 rib for 4 rows
*knit 18sts, Seed stitch for 34sts, knit 18 stitches
Repeat from *for 8rows
K1, P1 rib for 4 rows
Cast off
Stitch buttons on the side where it changes from stocking stitch to seed stitch.

Here are a few photos of the finished headband, its become one of my favourites, as you can choose which way to wear it - stocking stitch at the back or front.
