What is grating stitch?
Grating stitch creates diamonds which are made using purl of raised stitches creating a 3D texture. This pretty pattern is created using a combination of knit and purl stitches.

How do you do grating stitch?
To do grating stitch you need to know how to knit and purl.
Cast on multiples of eight
Row 1: *P1, K7, repeat from*
Row 2: *K1, P5, K1, P1, repeat from*
Row 3: *K2, P1, K3, P1, K1, repeat from*
Row 4: *P2, K1, P1, K1, P3, repeat from*
Row 5: *K4, P1, K3, repeat from*
Row 6: *P2, K1, P1, K1, P3, repeat from*
Row 7:*K2, P1, K3, P1, K1, repeat from*
Row 8:*K1, P5, K1, P1, repeat from*
Repeat these eight rows.

What can you make using grating stitch?
Using grating stitch you could make a cushion cover, scarf, throw, jumper or it would look lovely on on a strip on a handtowel.
