Winter is a time for being snuggled up in front of the fire with a good book. Here is a collection of poems I have written over winter this year.
[Start of image description: a white rectangle with the words "Winter 2024 poem collection" and a smaller rectangle with the words "poetry garden". Underneath is a photo of a spiced turmeric latte in an owl mug with two plain gluten free biscuits next to it. End of image description.]
Tranquil
Tranquil is for…The birds singing
Waterfalls
Skipping stones
The creek running slowly
The bushes and forests
The peaceful garden
Feeling at peace as you go about your day
[Start of image description: a photo of a pond with goldfish and a netting over the top. End of image description.]
Cozy Winter Nights
The roar of the fire,The smell of smoke in the air,
Sounds of laughter of the children playing
As they awaited their marshmallows
Sticks currently being used as swords in a pirate battle,
The marshmallows opened and children stopping dead in their tracks.
Soon sticks and marshmallows were over the fire
Sizzling and toasting,
Some were scorched too black but gooey inside
The children quickly ate them up going back for more marshmallows
Taking turns to grab them,
sometimes putting 2 or 3 instead of 1 on their sticks
Marshmallows being shared around until they were all gone.
[Start of image description: a photo of an outside fire with a grate over the top and a marshmallow being toasted. End of image description.]
Endo bad day
Smells like scents of nature wafting in the air,Wanting to be outside enjoying it all
Instead it looks like days spent resting under wheatie bags, hot water bottles and heated blankets
Sounds of high pitched screams
Tastes like tears falling down your face
Feels like barbed wire wrapped around you and your organs slowly squeezing them together.
No escaping the fire raging inside
Smells like fresh sunflowers
Looks like sunflowers in a field resembling the community of warriors who walk this path alongside you
Sounds chatter amongst friends
Tastes like a cup of turmeric lattes brewed on the stove
Feels like a safe place where you can share the roller coaster of the ups and downs of this journey.
[Start of image description: a photo of sunflowers next in a vase against a wall. End of image description.]
Stormy night
The wind is howling,storm clouds,
heavy rain bracketing down,
signs of a storm brewing
as the fire crackles
candles nearby just in case
if not it’s the prefect
evening to knit or read
by the fire or both
[Start of image description: a cozy fireplace stacked with wood to warm the cottage on a stormy night. End of image description.]
Teddy bears picnic
We sit next to a soft blue plaid blanketSurrounded by delicious knitted treats
The murky pond in the background with goldfish and lily pads
The birds singing in the trees their melody floating through the air
Soon spring will be here and we will have more picnics to enjoy
Today the sun is shinning
The colour breeze hanging in the air.
What a lovely winters day for a picnic for us to enjoy.
You with your white bow
Your caramel brown fur
Sitting next to all your friends
Out of your usual spot of the studio and away from bear corner
For loads of fun to be had
The Master Crafters picking you all up every now and again to hug
A picnic just for us all on this special day.
Awaiting for new bears on my needles to join you all and your adventures.
Where will they choose to sit
Near Bear Corner, by the inspiration board
Up above the desk, perhaps on the chair
Maybe somewhere completely different
For now we shall delight in today's picnic with more memories and picnics to come in spring.

Winter
Winter is the time is for...Cups of special cocoa sipped by the fire
While reading a cozy book.
Time for knitting chunky knits and wearing knitwear.
Days of wearing beanies, scarves and gloves when venturing outside.
Trips to the library to stock up on more books to snuggle up and read on the couch together.
Checking what movies are on the movie channel,
homemade popcorn for munching on during thee movie.
[Start of imaged description: a photo of a freshly made cup of cocoa in an owl mug sitting on the bench. End of image description.]
Midnight song
Escaping the city for the weekend
Waiting till my late Friday night shift ended
Heading off to the country
Singing songs and laughing
As you changed the words but kept to the rhythm of the song
Arriving late but it was worth it.
Long sleep ins
Awoken to the smell of hot coffee
Sitting outside and chatting
Enjoying the serenity, birds singing and sounds of life stock in the distance
It was so peaceful
An escape from the busyness of the city.
One we looked forward to at the end of each week.
